7 - You Gov Profiles

You Gov Profiles

In this task I have used the You Gov Profiler to see the type of fans these artists from similar / the same genres have.

Adele:

Amy Winehouse:

Ed Sheeran:

Concluding from this research, you can see that Adele and Amy Winehouse's Audience are more alike compared to Ed Sheeran.
Amy Winehouse and Adele both share a similar age group when it comes to their target audience, which is above 40 - 55 years old, (above middle aged). The regions they share fans in is Wales and Avon. All of the 3 audiences have the same monthly spend of under £125, and they all have very similar professions which link to media and social occupations.

8 - analysing past student videos

The Student video I will be analyzing is group 10's (Reanne, Danielle, Asrun, Esme)'s Music Video.

The song they performed was an indie pop song called 'wildfire'. What I admired at the beginning of the video was the establishing shots, setting the scene of the video, the establishing shot and long shots involved high rise buildings, motorways and a skater park which really emphasized the city / urban theme and feel of the song. Also, the change of shots was in sync with the music as everytime the song hit a certain drum beat, the scene would change which was very effective.

The costume setting and mis en scene was also very good and emphasized all themes of the genre, the graffiti emphasized the urban theme but worked with the bright colours (purples blues and yellows) to bring out the pop theme of the song aswell, the back ground stands out even more because they all both dressed in all black. You are also able to see who the main artist is during the clip because the female is always the focus of the camera, although there are exceptions where the male features in front of her (like in the screenshot above)  which shows that he is also apart of the music collaboration but not the main act.

Lastly, This groups use of technologies and editing was very effective as in the first screenshot they added a type of light swirling tunnel which linked which the colour scheme of the entire video, it also transitioned two scenes together quiet well and highlighted the retro indie aspects of the video, along with the second screenshot where she is mirrored. Although these effects are only used for a few second it really helps the music video flow thoroughly.

2 - Storyboard

This is a close up of chris brown while he is singing, the title of the song also fades onto the screen.
it creates a good effect on the viewers because they view an attractive well known artist that starts of singing.

The scene switches to fast images of the mansion that they are in, Nicki Minaj(low angle) laying on a long chair, showing her amazing figure that males love.

Then we see another well known artist which is meek mill ( Medium shot) we have a strong 3 in this music video, and we view flashing scenes as it begins to show who is in the video and the title that came up "ALL EYES ON YOU" shows what type of music video it will be.
We then recieve a range of fast shots all in one of NICKI MINAJ & MEEK MILL the two main artists, in different locations around the house, doing their things. it has a range of different shots.

8 - Analysing previous student video

This is my favourite previous student video.
The costume, props and location were made for the video,
they showed understanding in the concept of the whole video,
they made sure they planned everything in detail for it to turn out this great for us to make ours really good.
PLANNING IS KEY.
If your planning is on time and on point then your going to great places with your video...

14 - Reflection of progress.

I believe I am progressing well with my blog posts but I need to remain dedicated and stay on top of all tasks. I need to ensure I do not fall behind with any deadlines with any blog posts so that I am not left with having to complete numerous blog posts towards the deadline. I believe so far I would give myself a 13/20 for using different types of ICT. I need to start making my blog posts more visually appealing by adding gifs, more images or using different forms of ICT such as powtoon or ThingLink. This is so that I can display my creativity and my own initial ideas effectively.

I need to improve completing blog posts on time so that I remain stress free and on task. I also need to start adding more detail so I can express my ideas properly. Finally, I need to use a larger variety of ICT.

3 - Function of a music video

What is the function of a music video?

A Music video is a "videotaped performance of a popular song alongside visual images and movements interpreting the video".

The Purpose:

The Main purpose of a music video is to extend income for the artist, this is done through numerous ways

1. Promotion of the song. A Music video aired on TV will broadcast it to millions of viewers, giving the song enough promotion for CD and digital sales

2. Marketing Purposes, for the exposure or popularity of the Artist.

3. To Entertain and show other talents the artist might have such as acting, playing instruments or acting.

4. To give the listener a better understanding of the song through narrative or storyline of the music video (if it has one).

Michael Jackson 'Thriller' music video

Michael Jacksons 'Thriller' music video is a perfect example of a music video which follows all they key functions. had a strong narrative and storyline from beginning to ending which interpreted and followed the lyrics, Michael Jackson was a performer, actor, dancer and narrator in the music and it also sold between 51 and 65 million copies worldwide.

One Direction famously were runner ups on the largely watched and admired TV program the X-Factor. They became immediately famous after being selected and put together by Simon Cowell during the show as originally they came on as solo artists. Their fan base grew every week and young teenage girls ultimately became obsessed with the band. Once the series was finished Simon Cowell quickly signed them as he saw their admiration globally and their talent.

Purchasing CD's;

Purchasing CD's was difficult to find but clicking the musical note icon on the website homepage directed me to iTunes.

Lanterns on the Lake formed in 2007. They had supported fellow artists signed to Bell Union. They began to get noticed and recognition in 2010 after they self-released 2 EP's and were noticed and signed by Bella Union.

8 - review of my favourtie previous student video.

I chose this video as the song has a 'funky' beat and is similar to the genre of house music and electro music that us as a group want to use in our music video.
I liked this shot as it is evident it is a base track and the video would keep repeating this shot. I like it because it has been edited in black and white which was different to all the previous shots that were in colour.
This shot was visually unusual but enticing and strangely matches the beat of the song. It is something I have not seen within a music video and so makes the video stand out more and more memorable to the audience.
I particularly liked this close up as it represents the lyrics 'like fire' meaning the narrative matches the lyrics within this shot. This shot essentially symbolises the overall song and it is good that this shot is repeated on numerous occasions.
I also liked this close up as it focuses on the artists lips. It is a convention that is used in many music videos and makes the videos more visually different but enjoyable to watch. Seeing her mouth the lyrics makes the audience listen to them more coherently.
I liked this shot as they edited the leaves to go in reverse. It is exciting to watch and makes the video clearly stand out more. It shows the group made a great effort in adding effects to their video and this is something me and my group should keep in mind and remember while editing.
I thought this was a really creative shot. This is because the movement of the fingers matched the instrumental in time. It was a repeated shot also which made it interesting to watch

I liked this establishing shot as it establishes a urban location and links to the genre of the song.
