One Direction famously were runner ups on the largely watched and admired TV program the X-Factor. They became immediately famous after being selected and put together by Simon Cowell during the show as originally they came on as solo artists. Their fan base grew every week and young teenage girls ultimately became obsessed with the band. Once the series was finished Simon Cowell quickly signed them as he saw their admiration globally and their talent.

Lanterns on the Lake formed in 2007. They had supported fellow artists signed to Bell Union. They began to get noticed and recognition in 2010 after they self-released 2 EP's and were noticed and signed by Bella Union.
