pitch 2 - setting and location (by Atiyah)

LOCATIONS FOR MUSIC VIDEO:

-Kings Cross Regents Park
-Kings Cross Fountains
-South Bank /Waterloo
-London Bridge.

These are the locations we will be filming at for our music video, we have visited these locations prior filming. Lighting is very important in our Music video and therefore we will be filming after dark to get the full effect of the lighting of our locations.

Kings Cross Regents Park:

(Photography by Amy)

This the specific section of Kings Cross Regents Park we will be filming, we will be filming here after hours when it is dark so we will be able to get the glow neon effect of the art pieces in the background, we are doing shots of the artist here, and also one shot of the artist singing here (just standing in front of the pieces, no specific movement from the artist herself), we are using this location as the art neon pieces follow the Club and Rave culture that we are focusing on in our video. (as house music is extremely popular in clubs), the bright lights also link with the retro vibrant theme of our video and song.

Kings Cross Fountains:

(photography by amy)

Kings Cross fountains is the main place that we will be filming, we are doing 3 main base tracks of the artist in 3 different locations across this area, the first location is the first photo of the colourful low fountains, this is our main locations as it has all the vibrant colours we need in our video, and like the neon art pieces, it follows the club and rave scene theme, it is perfect for a house music video as it is bright vibrant, and there is enough space for the artist to dance and move about. Our artist will be doing full base tracks in front of the last two fountains as well, these two fountains work perfectly with the lyrics and name of the song 'white noise' as the water has a bright glowing white effect on camera (as we did some test shots when we visited), and because the rest of the background is dark, only the water and artist herself will stand out. We also did a photo shoot in front of the last fountain as it would be a perfect, simplistic yet urban background scene for our final digipak and ancillary work.

Our artist will also have some shots walking through this area of kings cross fountains, all the trees are cut in a cube shape and arranged in rows with lights mimicking them, this is a perfect sort of 'hipster' runway for our artist to promote the brands she is wearing. (adidas - explained in detail in synergy post #8)

SOUTHBANK / LONDON BRIDGE

We are using London bridge and South bank as through research of other house music videos, we have learnt that majority involve a lot of shots of scenery and buildings, and just objects which are generally retro and link to the genre, we also gained inspiration from the original music video to do scenery and skyline shots so plan to shoot some relevant shots here, we also plan to do one last base track of our artist singing in front of the scenery.

14 - Reflection of progress

REFLECTION

I think I am slowly but surely progressing well with my blog, I am doing much better than last year as I have put a lot more time and effort into the blogs I have completed, however , I would give myself an 12 out of 20 in my blogging at this moment in time as I still have a few blogs to complete which is something I need to improve on, completing blogs on time, I also need to improve on using different technologies besides Emaze and Prezi, and the third aspect I need to improve on is consistency in the quality of my blogs as some of my blogs have a lot more detail than others. Overall I generally think I am doing better in terms of detail and understanding of blogging this year compared to last year, however there is still room for improvement.

extension - filming evaluation

 FILMING EVALUATION

DAY 1: KINGS CROSS, CAMDEM-
On our filming we went to Kings Cross and got a lot of establishing, low angle, high angle, close up and wide shots of scenery that we could use in the video, the location and scenery of house music is very important and one of the main things used in house and dub-step music videos. This took around 3 hours. Here are some examples:
DAY 2: KINGS CROSS FOUNTAINS-
On our second day, before we began filming the base tracks we took photo's of our artist for the potential final ancillary and digipak.
After that we filmed our base tracks in 3 different locations across kings cross fountains for a variety of shots, we finished filming in within 2-3 hours. Here are some examples:
Day 3: KINGS CROSS FOUNTAINS / SOUTHBANK-
On our third day of filming we finished up our final base track we needed to film of our artists (which was the scene on the caged swing) and then we headed to Waterloo/ Southbank near London Bridge and got more scenery and potential cut-away shots to use in the music video, we also filmed 2 more base tracks. Here Are some examples:
WHAT NEXT?
we have looked through our footage and have gathered that majority of the shots are correct, but we now plan to get them checked - over. We also have one more scene to do using the green screen in college.

Pitch- 9. Individual Draft Digipak (CD)

17 - analysis of original video

This is the original video of the song 'disclosure' which we are using for our music video.

SHORT SUMMARY OF ORIGINAL VIDEO:
This video follows a narrative and set concept, it has a main character and performer, his role is clear through his costume as he is wearing a 'SECURITY' coat which shows this is his occupation, we follow him check into his job, and then make his way into an abandoned warehouse where he begins to dance to the soundtrack, and then he begins to dance outside in another abandoned area, the video ends with him dancing with another character which was shown at the beginning of the video.

DIFFERENCES TO OUR VIDEO:
Our video will not be similar to the original video.
  •  this video follows a narrative and has a character, however our video will not follow a narrative (as house music videos usually don't)
  • Our artist is the performer and narrator in the video, unlike the original video which has uses a character/actor as the performer.
  • This colour scheme in this video is very dull and grey (which may be down to editing), however this is the complete opposite to our video, as we plan to have very vibrant, bright colours.
  • The setting in this video is very  'grunge urban' with dull scheme and abandoned settings, our setting will be very 'retro / modern urban' meaning we will use a lot of bright lights, city scenes, and colours.
  • This video moves quiet slowly, our video will be more up tempo in the speed of the shots and edits.

SIMILARITIES AND INSPIRATION FROM THIS VIDEO:
Although our video will be relatively different from the original, we have taken some ideas from this video to use in our own, for example the setting is a very urban setting which will be moderately similar to ours, for example:

In this scene of the video, there is a skyline setting of the city, in our music video we plan to use a skyline setting in the city for our artist to perform in front, this is one of the aspects of house music videos that we will be following, the use of city settings and scenery.

Another similarity from the original video, is that our video will also include a lot of tracking and panning shots of scenery (the scenery will not be the same but the type of shots will be)

the main focus throughout the video is the character dancing, in our video we will also have a character in the beginning dancing, and we will have our artist dancing throughout the video aswell, this is a common feature of house music videos.

27- Final ideas for music video

FINAL IDEAS FOR MUSIC VIDEO

A lot of our inspiration for our video came from former music videos and our knowledge of house music and the 'Rave / Club' scene which is very popular in London and one of the main scenes in which house music gained its status from, since it is still a very new genre of music, (which means we could experiment with the theme of the music video slightly more).

CAMERA-WORK / MISE EN SCENE

we have taken inspiration of the original video when it comes to mise en scene and camerawork, with the use of establishing city skyline shots and panning shots of our skyline setting which we plan to use in our video.  (explained in detail in post #17)

CAMERA-WORK / MOVEMENT

We also gained some inspiration off of the 'Hideaway' music video by house/pop music artist Kiesza. In the first Gif we see a tracking shot of the artists whilst she is performing the song, same with the shot below, since our artist is the narrator and performer of the song we plan to use tracking shots of the artists walking and singing the song at the same time.

This gif is from the music video 'Studio' By Schoolboy Q, he is not a house artist however this mise en scene works well with the 'house' theme and works hand in hand with the use of panning (shown in the first gif). We will be using a similar setting to this in our actual music video.

 EDITING

We plan to use this 'reverse' edit, shown in the gifs above, in our original music video, as it matches one of our lyrics, we will specifically be using it in the same way it is shown in the last gif, of the artist reverse walking backwards to go with the lyric 'back back back'.

FINALISED PRODUCTION SCEDULE.

Post Pitch Analysis

Our Post Pitch Analysis

On Wednesday we said to Marisa and the class we felt that we weren't ready and also some of the pitch tasks were not on the blog. We were all over the place and we should have worked together as a team better. Individually we need to complete the digipak and ancillary work. On top of that we need to take our ancillary photographs. We need to make sure that they are all done before we start filming.

Here is our positive feedback given to us:
- We did use a range of ICT to our post which were good.
- Marisa and the class thought that our locations were well thought because we had a lot of detail of why we are using the locations.
- We had a strong theme of fluorescent and neon lights which we want to use in our music video.
- Our outfit plan was really well presented we just need to execute it.

Here are our not-so positive feedback:
- We need to put our target audience and also the wider audience on the blog and give a detailed explanation.
- We do need to all put our individual and different Digipak and Ancillary work on the blog so it is present that we have made a draft of what our individual Digipak and Ancillary work could look like in the final outcome.
- We also need to work on communication and team work as a group or else we wont produce a good music video.

We need to upload all the pitch post to the blog - we are going to make sure all the missing ones are put on the blog before the end of half term is finished.

Need to make sure our  draft digipak and ancillary work is finished -  we all are going to upload our individual drafts of both ancillary and digipak work and on the blog before the end of half term is finished.

Also we need to work as a team much better -  we are going to communicate much better and also work together to produce a good music video.

17 - Analysis original video.

We are going to make our music video different to the original video,
We will be using a green screen to create a different effect that shows how funky the vibe is
In the original music video they have a dancer and that is what we have that is similar.
The dancer will be in the middle of a pretty location, dancing to the song which will be very entertaining for the viewers.
We will be shooting from different camera angles.
We are going to film in east London to do the establishing shot, to create the same vibes thats in the music video.

The pitch - 8. Synergy (by Amy)

Social Media blog post 18 By Destinni

Here is our twitter  and Instagram page which we will use when we go out filming to let the media department know where we are filming and how is it going. We will be also taking pictures and uploading them to document our time whilst filming.

Pitch 4 - Audience 1 (by Atiyah)

Our Core Audience and Wider Audience:

We have concluded who are music video's core and wider audience should be through our research of the typical 'house music fan'.

the results we gained from this research was the that the typical house music fan is:

"A white British male aged 17-25, hobbies include going to the gym, partying, listening to music and shopping, their favourite holiday includes Ibiza."

we have separated this into specific aspects of the core audience we will appeal to:

1.) Ravers / Clubbers : house music is most popular on the rave and club scene, ravers and clubbers are most likely to relate and listen to house music.

2.) 17 - 25 year olds : the main age group who listens to house music and goes clubbing.

3.) Middle / Upper Class: The class most likely to have clubbing and shopping as a leisure activity, and have Ibiza as a holiday destination.

4.) Londoners : House music is most popular in London, and London is well known for the club scene.

How we will appeal to this core audience:

We will appeal to this audience through the content and location of our music video, and through the costume and movement of the artist.

To appeal to middle /upper class 17-25 year olds who are interested in shopping / fashion, our artists outfit will consist of current day in style that is popular among this age group, her entire costume is explained in detail in the 'Brand Image' post.

The locations we are using in our video is popular London locations such as Kings Cross and Alexandra Palace, but we are also making sure our locations link to the club scene through the use of the lighting. We are using bright colorful and vibrant lights in the locations like seen in common house music videos, so this will appeal to  both Londoners and clubbers.

 Wider audience:

For our wider audience we are concentrating on the younger generation (13-16), dub-step fans. So we will also be appealing to the more 'grimey/grungey' aspect of house music, we are going to do this through the camera work and location.

A lot of dub-step music videos use scenery and city scape shots in music videos (can range between estate block scenery and London skyline scenery), since our genre is house music we will be using skyline scenery to stay with the house theme (through the use of bright lights in this scenery) but so dub-step fans can still relate to it.

We've a clean song to relate to our younger wider audience.

30 - The Story Board

Our Story Board

Extension - My own ideas for costume and inspiration.

Pitch - 1.Song Choice (by atiyah)

The song our artist will be performing is 'White noise' by Disclosure.
We have chosen this song because we are following the house music genre, and White noise is a popular house music song.

Our video will be different from the original video as we  will not be closely following the grunge theme like shown in this video (graffiti, rubble, abandoned areas), but we are focusing more on the urban club scene, therefore we will be using more colourful and vibrant lighting, the locations will be different as we will be using city locations with bright lights.

The video for this song follows a storyline / set concept. However not all house music does this, so we will not be following a narrative, as we will be following the club scene, so dancing will be involved (similar to dancing in the original video).

Those costume will also be different to the original video, as the characters in this video are wearing common clothing, that fit their role (e.g security wearing security uniform), however our artist will be playing both roles as performer and narrator (unlike this video which only has narrators), So she will be wearing clothing that match the house scene, (explained in detail in brand image blog post)

29 - Storyboard (created by Amy)

Difficulties.

When creating the storyboard i had difficulties in making sure the shots were drawn correctly. A example is the mid-shots i attempted to draw look like long shots and therefore makes our video seem like it consists of mainly long shots.
To overcome this, I will draft the shots again and make them look accurate.

Another difficulty I experienced is placing the shots in a order. House music as a genre rarely have music videos and when they do they never follow a story. Because of this i was worried about making the concept come across through my drawings. To overcome this my group and I will discuss the concept thoroughly and make sure it is clear.
