Laura Mulvey
This is something Laura Mulvey said to describe music videos:
'In a world ordered by sexual imbalance, pleasure in looking has been split between active/male and passive / female. The determining male gaze projects its phantasy on to the female figure which is styled accordingly.'
Mulvey discusses the idea that women are dismembered in all forms of media - that there is a focus, not on women as a whole, but a focus on parts of their body ( e.g their body is dismembered). Though she argues that this is responsible for some women's focus and obsession with specific parts of their body (bums, boobs, thighs etc). Men, she argues as show as a whole.
Beyonce
In the music video for Dance For You by Beyonce, the first scene in the video was of Beyonce walking into the room and you can hear her heels clicking on the floor very slowly. Then the male notices her presence in the room he turns around to look at her. But the look in his eyes when he looks at her is in a very seductive way and the clothing she is wearing in the video makes her look very provocative. Which also makes him look at her in a certain way. This video makes Laura Mulvey's theory very true because the males gaze is on the female figure according to how she is styled.
Pitbull
in this music video for Hotel Room Service by Pitbull, there is the obvious male gaze throughout the whole of the video. This is because of the clothing that the females are wearing, they most have their top undone which is why the male artist is always looking in that area of the female. This also makes Mulvey's theory correct because the clothing that the females wear are making the male gaze in such a seductive way.
