Carol Vernallis
Carol Vernallis studied editing and camerawork closely in music videos. She observed that the edits were more frequent than film, most stand out as disjuncture and the editing seems to have a rhythmic basis closely to the song.
- Music video aren't always balanced between narrative and performance.
- Don't always have narrative resolution at the end.
- It often post questions in the narrative that are not answered with in the video
- the usual rules of 'continuity' editing are broken in order to draw attention to what is on the screen
- Edits may be really obvious to draw attention to themselves, such as wipes and special effect added
- jump cuts are often used
- base track is frequently used to give the video structure. The camera may move I'm time with the music.
There is some evidence of slow motion in this music video from Rihanna.
in this video below there are evidence of jump cuts.
